Good riddance

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards have agreed to a trade that would send former first round pick Kwame Brown to the Lakers for 2 guard Caron Butler and the Wizards choice of either Chutkey Atkins or Deavon George. I have one thing to say about this, Finally.

I have been calling for the Wizards to trade Brown for the last two seasons. I understand that high school players usually take time to mature. Usually the team that drafts the player never get to see his full potential. I even understand that most rookies straight out of high school don't ever pan out. But Brown has not matured in any way since he was drafted 4 years ago. His game has not gotten any better and he is too much of a baby to be 23.

When people use his age as an excuse I always counter with Gil' Arenas. Arenas is also 23, but he doesn't pull the same bullshit that Brown does. Such as lying about having a stomach virus in the middle of the playoffs because your not happy about your minutes. Brown is a parasite and right now is not even a very good player. That being said he has a tremendous upside. However I'm not sure he is committed enough to ever achieve his potential.

My question is which Lakers mastermind was behind this, Kupchak or Zen Man? With Phil back in the fold, I would think he has to ok this deal, I just can't figure out why. I mean, they should be able to get more for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins, than Kwame Brown.

Can't figure this one out from an L.A. angle.

This was definately a Kupchak move.
As i said Brown has a tremendous upside. If you have ever seen one of the 3 or 4 games where he has just dominated you would probably make this move too. Hes quick, he can jump out of the gym and at 6'11 he has the potential to be a great defensive player.

That being said brown had freakishly small hands. Like they are tiny, he cant palm the ball, he always goes up with two. And the Lakers are trading for just potential, thats not always a good idea. But they do need a big man, Chris Mihm aint gonna cut it next season.

Caron Butler is a great pickup. About 16 ppg at a high percentage, 6 rpg, and a pretty good defender. And Chucky Atkins is setting himself up to be the best backup PG in the league. I seriously think that Washington will be better next year, even minus Hughes.
