Can we get a little love?

Last week the Nationals, for the first time in their history, secured first place in their division. The NL East is, by most people in the know, is considered the toughest division in baseball. The Marlins are two years removed from a World Series ring, the Mets added Carlos Beltran and Pedro Martinez in the offseason, the Braves are prennial contenders for the playoffs, and the Phillies are.....well I dunno about the Phillies. Understandibly the Nats did not get any love before the season. Everyone (including this guy) predicted that we would finish the season in fifth place. After all we are just the Montreal Expos in a cooler uniform and infinitly better city.

I had no problem with people not showing us any love before the season started, but now that we have climbed to the top how about a little bit of props. MLB, which still owns the team, only allowed for a 50 million dollar payroll. Yet somehow GM Jim Bowden put together a very solid pitching staff anchored by the highly underated Livan Hernandez (9-2) and Estaban Loiza (3.4 era). We picked up Jose Guillen from the Angels and last years RBI leader Vinny Castilla. Not to mention one of the best SS in the league in Christian Guzman. And now a team that admittedly has trouble scoring sometimes, is at the top of the toughest division in the league.

They are on an 8 game winning streak, but I can not turn on the ESPN without hearing someone bashing them. Around the Horn did a segment on them and 3 out of the 4 panelist basically called them a fluke. I dont hear anyone on Baseball Tonight giving them any props either. The only people showing any love are Washingtonians Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser. Wake up people, this is one of the best stories of the young MLB season. A team that a couple of years ago was in danger of being contracted is now at the top of the toughest division in baseball. New city, new team, first place in the divison. Can we get a little love.

I like the Expos jerseys better. And why bash Montreal, have you ever been there?

Welcome to the world of baseball. Unless you're the Red Sox or Yankees, you're not getting any dap. The Cardinals have the best record in Natl League, but the only time you've heard about them this week is because they are playing the Red Sox/Yanks. I'll give your Washington Expos some props though. Its a tough decisions.

Because its Montreal.

Really? They had the ugliest hats in the league, next to Tampa Bay and Toronto.

>Unless you're the Red Sox or Yankees, you're not getting any dap.

Yea Im starting to notice that. The Yankees are terrible yet they get alot more air time than most other teams out there.

Here's what I figure the problem is, it's the division the Nats are in. You've got the Phillies with people trying to see if the players will pull their heads out of their asses and actually play well with Larry Bowa gone. You've the big market Mets, and everyone (meaning the media) wanting to see if Pedro holds and if Beltran was worth the money. And ultimately you've got people like me, who are glad the Nats are in 1st, but figure that the Braves are going to win the division again, because the always do. I'm not a Braves fan, I'd love it if someone else won that division (either the Nats or Marlins, I hate the Mets and Phillies fans deserve no success by their team), but until it happens I just have a hard time believeing the Braves won't win the division, so that makes it kind of hard to root for the Nationals.

Washington isn't going to get any love until they work it out. They have personnel issues, staff development issues, maintenance issues. The owner is threatening to walk away from it all. The fans are not dumb, that internal turmoil is seeping over the edges of that organization. And if they don't fix it quick they will surely combust. That's why they can't get any love. From a sad fan

Obviously youve never been to montreal, it is by far the coolest city in North America, top rated night life, full contact strip bars and poutine with every meal. And Expos jerseys were the shit son. Seriously.
